55c52524-6aa3-4092-a4a0-d296d014f8a4June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month and right now there are more cats and kittens in shelters than any other time of year that are in need of a love, support and a good home.  There are several ways that you can help to support this amazing cause.

The most obvious way to show your support for Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month would be to actually adopt a shelter cat.  This is an act of dedicated love that will forever change the life of a cat in need.  However; sometimes we are not able to be a cat owner and adopting a cat may not be an option.  You can still show your support by contacting a local shelter and offering your home as a foster family, or sharing your time as a volunteer.  These are time consuming, but worth it for these shelter cats.

(our baby, Mittens, was adopted from the Grand Prairie Shelter at 2 months)

As most of you know Kings & Queens Pet Sitting has made it our mission to help shelter animals. Ever since I adopted my Pitbull, Dojah from the Arlington Animal Shelter I knew I needed to help many more. We promote the shelter on social media, myself and all of my employees are current volunteers with the Arlington shelter and other shelters and rescues in the area.

There are many other creative ways to share the awareness of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. We know that social media has been a direct route to allowing information to reach thousands of people.  Why not use it for a good cause for these shelter cats?  Let your Facebook status intrigue your friends with a little caption about Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month and the link to your local humane society or animal shelter web site.  You can use twitter to encourage others to adopt a cat with a simple # (hashtag) along with a catch phrase. You can “Like”  Let social media be the window of opportunity for these shelter cats. You can also write into the local newspaper to give your local community information about adopting a shelter cat.  Be the voice of change, advocate for your community shelters. Go here to sign up to volunteer at the Arlington Animal Shelter. There are donation wish lists (wish list here) and flyers available to post at parks, in neighborhoods, or at work for your colleagues. You can link your Tom Thumb or Kroger rewards card to FAAS (Friends of Arlington Animal Shelter) so you can give a percentage of your purchase to helping pull animals from the shelter. Raising awareness is the best way to impact the community and encourage others to get involved in Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month.  It doesn’t have to cost you a dime either!

If you are in the position financially, shelters always welcome monetary donations as well as donations of much needed supplies such as pet food, towels, blankets, toys and other items. Call your shelter and see what they’re in need of and if you use the same social media approach mentioned above, you can probably get some friends and family to donate along with you! Each cat deserves a forever home and a shelter gives you the opportunity to save the life of a perfect feline friend.
